Antique Jambati Singing Bowl with Peaceful bass and rim complexity

1591 Antique Jambati Singing Bowl with Peaceful bass and rim complexity

Very simple and shiny Jambati smooth to the touch, with just the slightest evidence of hammermarks. Its thinness is the major factor in its deep tone. Deep and peaceful with a slow pulsing bass and, when played softly, a solid background overtone. When played with a higher tone mallet the overtone’s inherent faster pulse becomes more apparent. The next layer is incredible complexity, as in recording 2 off the rim. Very good harmony and excellent sustain, even with a soft tap like in the recording. With leather the bowl sings softly and deeply at first then moves to a higher tone (first part recording 2). With a massive wand the next two overtones emerge with intensity. With an ebony tiny wand – back and forth technique used – tones 5 and 6 emerge, wailing, the highest at 1417 Hz. Talk about complexity hidden within a peaceful deep facade!. With overtones at A#3, A#4, F5, C6.
