1685 Very Large Extra Thick Adorned Rare & Distinctive Flawed Beauty Antique Jambati Singing Bowl with #1685

1. Best L 2 Large Very Low Mallet single tap.
2. Rim Play: N105 XL Ringing Stick leather followed by FP Massive Yew Wand

Huge super thick low slung Jambati with a wide flat bottom. This massive bowl has rich original patina, muted hammermarks and lots of hand etching. The rim is thick with deep lines. Quite a piece!. Even with a fundamental in the second octave this bowl comes across as sweetly high pitched. The overtone is a resonant bell sound while the fundamental which takes over at the back end of the sustain is deep and slowly pulsing. The bowl has a sonic flaw, tied to an overtone it is audible for about 5 seconds into the sustain. Once the bowl sinks into its deep fundamental the discontinuous sound is gone. Played softly with the large felt mallet the flaw is almost entirely avoided. The recording was made to accentuate it. Stick play is a bit of work, the leather side will give a mix of fundamental and overtone, however as with the mallet the overtone leaves and just the bass remains over the sustain. Interestingly the wood side spins out the pure solid high but no flaw which is a frequency outside the harmonics of the bowl. This is a powerful instrument though to get the best out of it care must be taken. Marked down significantly for the flaw. Strongly recommended is to buy L1 L2 mallets and the stick and wand recommended to explore the full range of the bowl. With overtones at F#4, F#5.
