Rare Huge Adorned Antique Jambati Singing Bowl – 11.5 pounds

1170 Rare Huge Adorned Antique Jambati Singing Bowl - 11.5 pounds

Extremely rare massive Jambati bowl with deeply incuse etching.  At 14 1/2 inches across weighing in at 11 1/2 Lbs. it is one of the largest antique singing bowl we have ever offered for sale. The beautifully crafted rim is an unheard of 3/4 inch wide.  The bowl has ancient patina and a tiny center circle.  Often this level of artistry was used for ceremonial Lingam bowls. This is a very old bowl, one of the methods of determining this as well as its Himalayan origins is metallic analysis. This bowl has significant iridium content, over half an ounce (at $1500 to $2000 per ounce), something never found in modern bowls. Iridium, the rarest of the “rare earth” metals, has one of its highest concentrations in the Himalayas. It also adds a sweet resonance to the sound of a singing bowl.

Tremendous sound projection as you would expect from a bowl this massive. This bowl will fill a room. Longevity is excellent as is the level of sonic coherence. The strike tone is close to a perfect E. Immediately after the strike the bowl begins slow deep oscillations. The bowl lends itself to play with different mallets [clip 2].  Like most ceremonial bowls with the same crafted rim, it does not play well with ringing sticks. This is a rare piece that comes along once in a half million bowls. Overtones at E4 and C5.
