Large Antique Thadobati Lingam Singing Bowl with exquisite harmony

3064 Large Antique Thadobati Lingam Singing Bowl with exquisite harmony

Large, thick and heavy Thadobati lingam with clear artwork and rich original patina. It is made in the most elaborate classic style with a broad crushed rim, exterior circular punch pattern and voluminous lingam surrounded by hand etched circles Under the patina the bowl has a bright golden hue which could indicate some precious metal content. Powerful and penetrating high frequency primary tone that just seems to grab you. There are some really sweet higher notes but my preference was to display the incredible main note so I dampened them by using the every low mallet. Really special. Premium harmony and fine sustain. The rim is rough so the best way to play is with leather. Wood brings out the overtones some. Genuine Thadobati lingams are rare, ones with premium sound rarer still. This is one of the few genuine antique lingam collected each year. The most likely date for this bowl is 15th to 16th century. We acquired this bowl in 2013. Great piece for the right collector. With overtones at F#5, C6, B6.
