8727 Antique Manipuri Singing Bowl with spectacularly versatile rim play
Simple Manipuri with bright clean patina and faint outer lines, a bowl worn smooth from use. Very well balanced soundscape with a multitude on tones lead by an intensifying high frequency flutter. With a softer mallet that high note stands out less, with a hard one it’s at the front from the start (recording is with a middle ground mallet). Good longevity on the strike, great off the rim. What sets this bowl apart is the rim play, listen to the recording four distinct tones each teased off the same rim. With overtones at D#5, D6, A#6.
