Rare large extra thick Manipuri with punch and leaf design. This well preserved bowl even has the faint interior star which is the first bit of art to be worn away in this style.
Smooth soundscape with a pulsing woo-woo bass, clear but gentle balanced by a single solid overtone. While you cannot hear it in the recording there is a discordance if you strike the bowl really hard, not the way to play it but the flaw is there.
Good rim play with a simple stick. Leather can barely tease out the low. That is made up more for by the wood side spinning out the highs. Even played with wood the flaw is not audible, still the bowl is marked down for an imperfection you might never hear. Great value on a bog old well preserved deep tone Manipuri.. With overtones at D5, D6, A6, D#7.
