Antique Manipuri Singing Bowl with Rare Date Inscription – 1865 #8894

8894 Antique Manipuri Singing Bowl with Rare Date Inscription - 1865 #8894

1. Best S 5 Small Medium Mallet single tap.
2 Medium Ringing Stick wood followed by FP Sacred Yew Wand

Brassy Manipuri with an incredibly long inscription, it goes more than half way around the interior of the bowl. What is extremely rare, on in a hundred thousand is that it is inscribed with a date. The lettering is in Nepali so the calendar that applies has a different year tha the west. In our year 2018 they are in 2075. The numbers are 1 9 2 9 which translates to 1865. Wow. Complex and somewhat desultory soundscape with a mix of oscillations. You wouldn’t guess which tone comes out as the longest from the first 10 seconds of listening – but it is not the 221 HZ A. Rim play is best with wands, they can tease out the second overtone. Simple wood is fine for the first high note. With overtones at E5, D#6, A#6. Perfect A3 – 220 Hz.
