Antique Manipuri Singing Bowl with a complex harmonious cacophony

8924 Antique Manipuri Singing Bowl with a complex harmonious cacophony

Manipuri with crudely drawn interior artwork and the vestiges of the same outside. There is a lot of complexity to the design, the standard 17-18th century motifs but the inside would seem to have been etched by a journeyman. Bright and complex soundscape, many things going on at once in a harmonious cacophony. Underneath it all lurks the deep strike tone, well under 200 Hz. Spectacular longevity. Just incredible off the rim. The recording starts with leather playing the low then without a break the bowl switches to the overtone. A bit of pressure and the volume just roars. The second half of the recording is with a wand, higher notes, again great volume and sustain. Exceptional. . With overtones at C5, B5, G6, G7.
