Large Antique Manipuri Singing Bowl with British colonial inscription #9149

1. Best L 2 Large Very Low Mallet single tap.
2. Rim Play: N103 Large Ringing Stick leather low then overtone followed by FP Tulipwood Wand

Large Manipuri, an artifact from British colonial times with a rare English language inscription in cursive – J. S. Mills. The bowl itself was originally a piece of artistry with a punch and leaf exterior and circles, punches and a central design inside. You can see bits of that now. An added feature s the unusual dark hammermark patina, almost like leopard spots. Quite a remarkable looking bowl.

Active complex soundscape which settles down to a swirling overtone and soft but evident deep bass which straddles the edge between E and F. Longevity is very good, harmony is ok.

Fine rim play due to the smooth solid rim. Leather for bass is surprisingly easy though still low volume, overtones with firmer technique, Spectacular wand play with the next highs spinning easily to intensity with a tiny wand.. With overtones at B4, A#5, F#6, A#6.
