Antique Manipuri Singing Bowl with unusual bass and swirling overtone

9358 Antique Manipuri Singing Bowl with unusual bass and swirling overtone

Manipuri with a heavy bottom and complex but worn artwork. Inside the bowl is a long clear inscription, added long after the bowl was made – showing just how valued these small metal objects were. Unusual soundscape with a warbling bass tone and a swirling overtone. Definitely a matter of taste, love it or not! Sustain is good, out past the half minute mark. Fine off the rim with leather or wood, the quirky complexity comes through. Just the overtone with leather, simple wood plays a combination of overtones and the kingwood wand an amazing array of highs. With overtones at D5, C#6, G#6.
