Exceptional Antique Manipuri Singing Bowl with powerful complexity

9431 Exceptional Antique Manipuri Singing Bowl with powerful complexity

Old worn Manipuri with uneven dark patina. This is one of those bowls that showcase all the best in sound that can come out of a worn Manipuri antique. First of all the bowl is powerful, great volume. It has complexity operating on distinct channels with pulses and singing coming from seemingly different directions. The soundscape evolves so different elements emerge. Finally longevity is off the charts, the recording goes for 40 seconds but the bowl will play for much longer. Spectacular off the rim. As you spin with leather you hear the pure low, lift off and overtones merge. Unusual. Simple wood plays that pulsing overtone – however the sustain is so long the toneset evolves to higher notes, also unusual. with an ebony wand the same pattern of a high note evolving higher on sustain is evident. Exceptional sounding bowl that is not much to look at. With overtones at F5, E6, C7.
