4380 Thick Antique Thadobati Singing Bowl with three peaceful tones #4380

1. Best L 4 Large Low Mallet single tap.
2. Rim Play: N103 Large Ringing Stick leather followed by FP Massive Yew Wand

Very large thick thadobati. This is an example of a very old style bowl with rich patina and worn etching. The wide rim has a deeply etched line in the middle. Active three tone soundscape with multiple pulsing tones that simplify and mellow out as the sustain continues.  The bowl is so old and worn that in one corner of the bottom the metal has been rendered paper thin. There is even a pinhole where you can see light.  The flaw, if you can call generations of cleaning and wear, is in a non-sonic place and will not expand or migrate unless the bowl is handled roughly.  This really is a peaceful bowl and can be played more peacefully with a soft touch lower tone mallet. Longevity and harmony are good, the bowl is big and heavy so the sound – even at low volume – carries. Fine off the rim, it picks up power easily with leather. Leather is fundamental only and when you lift off the bowl the rapid pulsing kicks in. The overtone plays cleanly with a massive yew wand. It, too pulses rapidly after liftoff. This is a big heavy bowl with easy power. With overtones at F5, E6.
