Incredibly thick wide open bowl with a broad inner facing rim. This is a unique piece, the artwork, hammermarks and crushed rim date this bowl hundreds of years ago. It is unusual to see anything like this these days, last one we handled like this we bought in 2008. Visceral thumping primary tone, it moves with the regularity of a cosmic pump that emerges out of a harmonious matrix of notes. The recording just can’t covey the body impression of the soundscape. There is a nice solid background high, at least for the first 15 seconds. After that throughout the excellent sustain it is all cosmic pump. A super responsive bowl it really should be purchased with the large mallet set to show off the tone matrix. Still wherever you start it ends with that visceral thump. The smoothness of leather takes the edge off the primary tone. It plays a more subdued version. The big wand gives more of a taste, still better with a mallet. A rare very old bowl with a unique and powerful soundscape. With overtones at B5, A#6.
