9379 Large Antique Manipuri Singing Bowl with an initial burst of sound #9379
1. Best L 4 Large Low Mallet single tap.
2. Rim Play: N103 Large Ringing Stick leather then wood followed by FP Massive Yew Wand then FP Tulipwood Wand
Very large Manipuri worn smooth over time. Based on the remaining exterior punch and leaf etching it was originally much thicker and elaborately adorned. It also has a physical pressure crack that has no sonic effect. After an initial burst of sound the bowl settles into a pulsing and fluttering set of tones that late in the sustain focus on the pulsing overtone. Incredibly complex, over a dozen tones. The complexity can be teased out using different ringers. The recording has leather simple wood and the better contact from the burnished Frank Perry wands. Marked down a bit for the visual crack. With overtones at G#4, G#5, D#6, A6.
